OUR PHILOSOPHY
CREATING WORLD CLASS ROTTWEILERS
BREEDING
Breeding is an art. Part intuition, part analytics, and all passion. The craft of great breeding starts with a vision. A dream dog. For Carrabba Haus, the goal is the complete Rottweilers with exceptional temperament, structure, health, and beauty. Dogs who are versatile and meet the highest standards as working dogs, show dogs, and companions.
The ‘dream dog’ that Carrabba Haus worked towards is now represented in lines being used all over the world. Dogs from those lines are bred to be balanced, and they enjoy long, active lives as a result. Superior hearts, hips, and elbows make for healthy animals and Carrabba Haus’ holistic approach to the Rottweilers’ well-being consistently impresses veterinarians and clients alike.
CUTTING EDGE
While breeding is undeniably an art, the process is also highly scientific. Carrabba Haus is proud to be on the cutting edge. A constantly updated understanding of canine genetics, diet, and pharmacology is applied to better the life of each dog.
Carrabba Haus is committed to compact dry lines of the highest quality. Balanced animals that embody the best elements of the breed, while pushing it to new heights. These uncommonly handsome Rottweilers regularly win or place at prestigious events, including the top four most important shows in the world. The program has proven itself a success and Carrabba Haus continues to make subtle adjustments to its lines to chase new achievements.
Building an ideal Rottweiler isn’t only about the accolades. It’s about the unspoken bonds of trust that form between breeder and dog, breeder and client, and, ultimately, client and dog.
about us
In 1992, we purchased our very first Rottweiler from a well-respected breeder in Pennsylvania. After attending numerous Rottweiler shows and training the dogs, we fell in love with the breed.
In 2000, we imported our first dog from Germany: Carlos. In that same year, we bought his half sisters Wera and Wendy. From that point forward, we began building our breeding program to what it is today as the foundation of Carrabba Haus. Over the years and numerous litters later, we have continued traveling around the world to show our award-winning dogs.
Today, we have one of the best lines in the world and our dogs live at our 2 farms in Staten Island and Cuyler New York.
We believe that we’ve hit the true temperament spot with our pups. No other breeder, in our opinion, comes close.
HOW WE DO IT?
Before actually breeding Rotties we undertook a long period of study to identify and recognize common mistakes other breeders make.
These mistakes include:
Using too many bloodlines.
Not using strong producing females.
At Carrabba Haus, we are selective with the studs and bitches we choose to breed with. Our mindset is focused on future generations, not just the ones in front of us.
Many Rottweiler breeders will claim to have remarkable genes in their dogs and some of them certainly do. However, it’s not simply a matter of finding the most beautiful Rottie bitch and matching her with a handsome stud. We strongly believe in complimentary coupling.
For us, genetics is only the first step in creating a great Rottweiler. Beyond just the genes of a dog is the training that lays the foundation for its discipline. That’s what separates Carrabba Haus from other breeders.
OUR PROCESS
SUPERIOR UPBRINGING
We believe, that the right upbringing is as important as genetics in breeding a great Rottie. Our methods incorporate the latest science of nutrition, health and character development. We strongly believe that our foundation-building methods provide our dogs with an edge over any other breeder’s Rotties
Custom Food
We serve a custom-blend food that is perfectly balanced for our dogs. The meat consists of bison, beef & turkey. and uses absolutely no kibble! We believe that our advanced diet is a big reason why our dogs are the healthiest and best conditioned Rotties in the world. Compare our Rotties to those of other breeders and it will be obvious that we breed a leaner and more muscular dog.
De-Worm
We de-worm every 6 weeks! Most breeders only de-worm once the first year of a dog’s life. Our de-worming methods virtually eliminate any possibility of our dogs contracting toxemia or giardia. These are common protozoan parasites that if left untreated ruin the health, appearance and personality of a dog. Since we’ve been following this de-worming regiment, we’ve had a 99% success rate with hip dysplasia. We can’t say for sure that this is the single reason why (it could also be our diet, see above) but we strongly believe that the prevention of protozoan parasites is a prerequisite to growing a healthy Rottweiler.
Training & SOCIALIZATION
We devote countless hours of training for each dog. Do we think the number of hours makes a difference in the development of a well-behaved dog? Let’s put it this way – we wouldn’t be doing it if we didn’t think so!
We have developed socialization training techniques that build exceedingly friendly, active and disciplined dogs. Our dogs play hard and they play well with people and other dogs. For instance, each of our dogs will be walked hours by the time he is 10 months old.
Never Spoiled
Our dogs are never spoiled. In case it wasn’t clear the first time, we’ll say it again: our dogs are NEVER spoiled. But, that is not to say we don’t love our dogs. We call it the “Carrabba Haus-Tough-Love Philosophy.” We teach them at a young age to fully appreciate human contact and play. Our dogs learn that playing with humans is a reward they earn after good behavior. We’ve seen so many breeders who do the opposite – they teach their pups that playing with humans is a god-given right. Not here! Not by a long shot. The effect of this style of training is two-fold. Not only do we create extremely well behaved Rotties, but, we create dogs that love to play with their owners. And they play fully and actively (you won’t find any lazy-Suzies at Carrabba Haus). We challenge you to put any of our dogs against those of another breeder. You will see in an instant that Carrabba Haus Rotties are more disciplined AND more active then those of any other breeder out there.
Facilities
We have three state of the art facilities. They are located in Staten Island, Syracuse and Germany.
